College of Public Health
We strive to include a health component in all of our projects and educational programs. We are fortunate to be able to take advantage of the faculty and networks of the College of Public Health, and particularly the Department of Global Health within the College. Faculty have facilitated contacts for Patel staff and researchers in Panama (e.g., the City of Knowledge, where COPH has an office), India and the Dominican Republic, among others.
International Health Service Collaborative
The Patel Center is fully supportive of getting students out in the field to practice what they’ve learned in the classroom. The Center provided financial support to a group of graduate students from the colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, and Physical Therapy during their service trip to the Dominican Republic in 2007, in which they helped build latrines and organized and operated health clinics.
Engineers Without Borders at USF
The Patel Center has provided financial support to USF Engineers Without Borders through the Undergraduate Scholars Program in the Dominican Republic. These students are looking for sustainable ways to give the poorest members of Miches access to clean drinking water.
