The Patel Center Welcomes International Teachers This Thursday 2/1/2010
The Patel Center is excited to welcome the 24 international teachers participating in the "Teaching Excellence and Achievement" Program beginning next week at USF. The theme of the program is "Interactive Teaching in a Globalized World," and teachers will be exposed to unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, learn about new instructional technologies and increase their knowledge about the United States. Social Movement Governance, the Poor and the New Politics of the Americas 1/28/2010
On February 2-4, 2011, the Patel Center, in partnership with Globalizations and the Comparative Research Programme on Poverty at the University of Bergen, Norway, will present a conference on the topic of Social Movement Governance, the Poor and the New Politics of the Americas. The Patel Center's Response to the Crisis in Haiti 1/15/2010
The Patel Center for Global Solutions wishes to express its deepest sympathy for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. We encourage you to support the relief effort for survivors by donating to any of the humanitarian organizations listed below. In the meantime, we are working with colleagues across USF to develop projects that will support Haiti’s long term recovery. We will keep you apprised of these efforts that are underway.

Finally, the Patel Center’s thoughts are focused on the well being of the Haitian teachers we hosted last summer for the Democracy and Diversity Workshop funded by the U.S. Department of State. We will let you know how the teachers and their families weathered the earthquake and how we can help them out in the coming days. Thank you in advance for your support.

BIE Internships in the Dominican Republic and Panama 12/15/2009
The Patel Center for Global Solutions is offering a six-week internship in either the Dominican Republic or Panama from May 17-June 25, 2010. Students will contribute to a U.S. Department of Education-sponsored project researching the potential for small businesses in the State of Florida to export alternative energy products and services in these host countries. Students will acquire global export business experience about how business is conducted in the host countries. In addition, they will enhance their Spanish-speaking skills and learn about other cultures. For further details, please click here.

Faculty Small Grant Awards Now Available 11/16/2009
The Patel Center is now accepting applications from faculty for small grant awards up to $5,000 for activities that support the mission of the Center.

The Center considers requests that advance solutions in the following priority areas that are identified in its Strategic Plan: potable water and sanitation; urbanization and migration; sustainable economic activities including trade; and educational capacity building. The Center also will support requests that address health issues related to these priority areas. Click here for more information.
